Northampton Lunatic Hospital, The Island of Lost Maps, Cartographical Obsession, and Local Examples

It's rare that I make it to the end of a book all in one go. Usually I have 12 or more underway and they all finish up eventually, but Miles Harvey's "Island of Lost Maps" has roped me in and intersted me in maps and cartography in the process. Today's journey to Forbes Library was filled with discovery, including some old maps I found against the back wall, some of which I shot and have included below. Dylan Gaffney of the Forbes staff says there are even more remarkable maps in the archives which can be viewed by appointment on the weekends. Click on the pix for better views.
