Northampton Marie Osmond's 49th Birthday Parade
Well, whatever the reason for it, a parade is worthy of some photos if you have a Northampton blog that espouses to capture the raw excitement of small town living. This was a short parade. Monday, October 13, 2008. Marie Osmond was born on this day in 1959. I suspect the Northampton Marie Osmond's Birthday Parade was initiated long ago, perhaps in the late 19th century. There are Marie Osmond's Birthday deniers of course but they were restricted to the "protest zone" behind the Calvin Theatre. Aside from the deniers, there has been no one passionate enough one way or another to re-think the wisdom and point of the event. Annual traditions sweep up one generation after another until no one really remembers anything about anything. Just march! Don't ask so many questions! Okay sing! "Paaaper Rooooses...la la la." Over in Amherst, they have parade wars I hear.
Miss Paper Roses, above, who sang the best version of Marie's biggest hit and looks a little like her if you squint or drink a six pack.

Here they come, okay brass play....
I'm a little bit country...TWIRL!
...now GUYS! and I'm a little bit rock and roll!
I'm a little bit of Memphis and Nashville...
With a Little bit of Motown in my soul...YEAH!
I don't know if it's good or bad but I Know I Love It So I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock 'n roll. I'm a little bit counnnnntry, and he's a little bit rock 'n' roll. He's a little bit gentle, he's a little bit runnin' wild. She's a little bit a full-grown woman, she's a little bit of a child... YOW! I've got Marie Osmond's 49th Birthday FEVA! I'm gettin' me the RINGTONE! By the way, it takes just as long to type rock 'n' roll as it does to type rock and roll.
